Starlink Curaçao License Could Be Approved as Early as June 2026

WILLEMSTAD — Starlink could receive an official license to operate in Curaçao as early as June 2026, potentially bringing high-speed satellite internet one step closer to direct availability for residents, businesses and local ICT providers.
The Regulatory Authority Curaçao (RAC), the island’s telecommunications regulator, is expected to issue a formal response in early June to Starlink’s application for an operating concession. If approved, Curaçao users would be able to subscribe directly to Starlink’s satellite internet service through the company’s official platform.
Starlink Still Listed as “Coming Soon” in Curaçao
Curaçao has appeared for some time on Starlink’s global coverage map as “coming soon.” However, customers on the island still cannot officially order Starlink subscriptions directly because the company does not yet hold a formal operating license from RAC.
Starlink, owned by Elon Musk, delivers high-speed internet through a network of low-Earth orbit satellites and compact satellite dishes. The service is especially useful in areas where traditional cable, fiber or mobile internet infrastructure is limited, unreliable or unavailable.
Curaçao Residents Already Using Starlink Through Roaming Plans
Although Starlink has not yet been officially licensed in Curaçao, many residents and businesses are reportedly already using the service.
Users have been purchasing Starlink equipment abroad, particularly in the Netherlands and the United States, and activating the system through Starlink’s roaming or travel subscription plans. These services currently function on Curaçao without technical restrictions.
Several local ICT companies are also reportedly offering Starlink installation and support services, reflecting growing demand for faster and more resilient internet connectivity on the island.
RAC Reviewing Starlink License Application
As part of the regulatory approval process, RAC has reportedly submitted additional questions to Starlink before making a final decision. The review is expected to examine technical, legal and market-related issues linked to the satellite internet provider’s operations in Curaçao.
A positive decision would allow Starlink to formally enter the Curaçao telecommunications market and offer its services directly to local customers.
Curaçao Could Follow Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba
If approved, Curaçao would follow the example of the BES islands. Starlink received a 15-year operating license for Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba at the end of last year.
The possible approval of a Starlink license in Curaçao is being closely watched by the island’s technology, business and tourism sectors. Reliable high-speed internet is increasingly important for remote work, digital entrepreneurship, tourism services, online education and economic development.
Starlink Could Strengthen Curaçao’s Digital Infrastructure
The official arrival of Starlink in Curaçao could mark a significant step in the island’s digital transformation. By adding satellite internet to the local connectivity landscape, Curaçao may gain a more resilient alternative to traditional internet infrastructure.
For businesses, remote workers and households seeking faster or more reliable internet options, Starlink’s approval could represent a major development in Curaçao’s telecommunications sector.
